What can the money in the GI bill be used toward?
My fiancee is heading off to boot camp for the army monday and we're talking about him using his GI bill, and he is saying that he can use that money toward something other than education, like getting a house for us when he's out of the military. I thought it could only be used for educational purposes so, can someone please set me straight and tell me every use the GI bill will have as of the latest signing thing that's coming effective August 1st!
That is a good question, but I think you are a little confused.
The Montgomery GI Bill for education is money that is used for education. You have to enroll in a VA approved school or training. There is a new GI Bill for post 9/11. It has different requirements.
The home loan. Is part of the GI Bill. But what it actually covers is a loan through a bank or financial institution where the government backs the loan. It is not the same as the educational benefits.
They are separate and you can have both. I put VA website links so you can see what they are.
