2010 Shanghai World Expo....will You Be There?
The 2010 World Expo in Shanghai will begin less than 50 days. It is the biggest event in China, since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The World Expo in Shanghai will be held from May 1st, 2010 to October 10th, 2010. There are well over 200 nations and international organizations that are taking part in the exhibition, and more than 80 million visitors from home and abroad. The theme for Shanghai's expo is urban life, "Better City, Better Life." In China, with more than 600 million people living in the cities, this is a great opportunity for China and the world to explore the opportunity and the potential of urban living. If you are one of the many foreign visitors to the World Expo and this is your first trip to China, there are a few things to keep in mind while you are on this trip.
The World Expo is going to be held in one of the biggest city in China. Shanghai has 19 districts in total, with 10 districts considered to be Shanghai's city center. Transportation is very convenient in Shanghai, considering there are a total of 11 subway lines running across the city in every direction. When you are making reservations, it may be a good idea to find a hotel that is near subway stations. It makes it much more convenient to travel between places, without wasting time in traffic jams. Websites such as: english.ctrip.com, english.expotia.com, www.elong.net, are resourceful when you are looking for the right hotels. If you must catch a taxi, here are a few numbers you should keep so you can call a cab in advance: Qiang Shen Taxi 62580000, Da Zhong Taxi 96822, Ba Shi Taxi 96840, and Jing Jiang Taxi 62155555. Avoid peak hours, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All eyes may be on Shanghai for the upcoming expo, but let's not forget that Shanghai's neighboring cities also have much to offer, away from towering buildings and overcrowded streets. Cities such as Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Wuxi will offer you a strong contrast between Chinese cities. The city of Suzhou is most famous for its beautiful classical gardens, along with small canals, historical city walls and dozens of cobblestone alleyways. This city is also famous throughout China as the "Capital of Silk," where it once was and still is an important center for China's silk industry.
The city of Hangzhou has always been known by the Chinese as "Heaven on earth." It is considered China's top tourist destinations by most Chinese. Hangzhou is home to China's most famous lake, the West Lake. This lake had inspired numerous poets and has over 30 lakes in China named after its mesmerizing beauty. You will also find the Hangzhou Botanical Gardens, Lingyin Temple and the Liuhe Pagoda a sight you will not soon forget.
Take this opportunity to see the expo, Shanghai and its surrounding cities. It's a chance to see much of China without losing time traveling in-between cities. China's much too big for a short vacation, but if you are here for the expo anyways, why not visit the surrounding cities?
