Animal Parks and Zoos in Bangkok – Explore the animal kingdom of Thailand

Bangkok nestles several animal and zoological parks, highlighting a vast range of species, extending from vertebrates to invertebrates.

Khao Din also known as Dusit Zoo is the biggest zoological park in Thailand, resting on the Rama V Road close to Vimanmek Mansion, in the Dusit District of Bangkok. The resort was once a part of the Royal Dusit Garden Palace of King Rama V. The zoo is set in a stunning natural landscape straddling a picturesque lake and extends over a 47 acre land.

Established in the year 1938 as Dusit Zoo, it is home to approximately 2,400 animals representing most parts of the world, including white tigers, douc langurs (type of primates), elephants and albino barking deer. The zoo also hosts various performances of animals. In addition you are welcome to visit their aviary as well as the exclusive territories reserved for nocturnal animals, reptiles and amphibians.

Dusit Zoo also houses an exclusive children’s zoo featuring many of the smaller species of animals. You can find out more about these animals from the Animal Presentation area. There are also a host of fun rides awaiting your kids at the premises.

The ideal place to go on an exciting safari adventure is the Safari World, sprawled on the Ram Inthra Road in Bangkok. The Safari World is divided into two main parks namely the Safari Park and Marine Park. You can find a range of amenities in the premises including a fine restaurant, an exclusive gift shop, an Information Centre providing various guest services and parking facilities among others.

There is a plethora of shows hosted in the Safari World including some of the most attractive shows of birds, primates and sea lions. You can also opt for jungle walks and jungle cruises or visit the Eggs World to learn scores of things about eggs, incubation and the egg-laying animals or watch the most thrilling Hollywood stunt shows highlighting cowboy-bandit confrontations.

If a close encounter with some of the most dangerous reptiles piques your interest, the Snake Farm at the junction of Henry Dunant Road and Rama IV Road is just the right place for you. It houses cobras and King Cobras, banded kraits, Malayan pit vipers, as well as Russell’s vipers with their venom extracted. And to visit their ferocious aquatic counterparts, you can visit the Crocodile Farm at Samut Prakan Province, sited about 25km from Bangkok.
